Kawasaki, Japan/Hanover, Germany — Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (Headquarters: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, President and CEO: Karl Deppen, hereafter “MFTBC”) announces the introduction of the Next Generation eCanter at the IAA Transportation taking place in Hanover from September 20th–25th. Sales of the Next Generation eCanter in Europe are planned for Q4 2022, with series production following in 2023.
The FUSO eCanter was initially launched in 2017 as the first series-produced electric truck from Daimler Truck. Nearly noiseless and locally emission-free, the eCanter has been supporting the logistics needs and sustainability goals of various global companies over the past five years. So far, around 450 eCanter trucks have been delivered to customers in Japan, Europe, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, and have collectively covered a distance over 6 million km worldwide through daily operations.
The Next Generation eCanter newly on offer is available with a wider selection of 42 variants, allowing for even more diverse applications. With the PTO (power take-off) unit, the eCanter can run as a tow truck, a tipper, or have rear cranes installed to support construction businesses. In Europe, customers will be able to choose from a GVW range of 4.25 to 8.55 tons and six different wheelbases. Having developed a new modular battery concept, MFTBC is offering the Next Generation eCanter with various driving distances based on the vehicle size and selected wheelbase. With the largest option, a driving range of about 200 km can be expected on one charge, providing more flexibility for drivers on longer routes. As with the current eCanter, customers will also continue to have the choice of AC charging or DC fast-charging. Additionally, the European model of the Next Generation eCanter now comes with Active Sideguard Assist on top of Active Brake Assist 5 (ABA®5) for further peace of mind during inner-city jobs.
Karl Deppen, President and CEO of MFTBC and Head of DTA commented, “It is with great pride that we present the Next Generation eCanter to our European customers. We have analyzed five years of data and experience from customer operations from around the world, including 13 European markets to deliver an even better product. Additionally, we will be supporting customers with the emobility solutions they need to make the transition to EV. FUSO is ready to offer what the world has been waiting for — flexible and versatile zero-emission urban transportation.”
In the coming years, the Next Generation eCanter will also be introduced to additional markets, including Taiwan, Indonesia, Chile, Singapore, and Hong Kong. These expansion plans are part of MFTBC and Daimler Truck’s strategic shift to battery-electric and fuel-cell powered solutions over the next decades. As an integral part of Daimler Truck, MFTBC is also committed to selling only CO2-neutral products in the triad markets of Japan, Europe, and North America from 2039.
