Mitsubishi Fuso Awarded Quality Management System Certification “IATF 16949:2016”

• IATF 16949 certification awarded to Mitsubishi Fuso following third-party assessment
• Quality management system improvements will continue
• The new standard is applied to all processes from development and manufacturing through to sales and aftersales services

Kawasaki, Japan   On February 13th, 2018 Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer under the umbrella of Daimler Trucks, was awarded the IATF 16949 certification under the International Automotive Task Force, an international standard for quality management systems applicable to the automotive industry sector.

Compiled by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), IATF 16949 is a quality management system standard comprised of the strictest requirements designed to meet global procurement standards for automotive parts. Certification under this standard requires assessment and approval by a third-party assessment body ensuring the strictest quality management processes and transparency.

Designed to provide products and services that are satisfactory to customers, focusing on failure prevention and reduction of dispersions and wastes in the supply chain of the automobile industry, this standard is intended to create and implement systems to continuously improve these factors. As part of MFTBC’s IATF 16949-related activities, divisions and departments across MFTBC appoint and foster internal auditors.

Mitsubishi Fuso puts great emphasis on ensuring the highest levels of quality in its products and services. In March 2006, MFTBC was awarded the ISO 9001 certification for quality management systems. Since then, MFTBC has actively implemented measures to boost its quality management and assurance systems such as reviews of its quality control processes and drastic increases in quality management personnel. Additionally, in March 2011, MFTBC was awarded certification under ISO/TS 16949, which also incorporates requirements for meeting procurement standards for the supply chain of the automobile industry based on ISO 9001, a first for automobile OEM in Japan.

The IATF 16949 standard more clearly defines the requirements and desired items. The standard requirements added to the IATF 16949 require certified entities to clarify potential risks anticipated in business operations and to mitigate them.

As a member of the Daimler Group, MFTBC purchases materials, parts and components utilizing its extensive global network. For these processes, Daimler requires its suppliers to acquire certification under the IATF 16949 standard in order to maintain the highest quality of its products.
The certification covers all phases of business operations at the Kawasaki Plant, Nakatsu Plant, Kitsuregawa Proving Ground, Atsugi Parts Center and Ohgishima Logistics Center. It does not cover the regional sales organizations of MFTBC. The scope of this certification includes development, manufacturing, sales and after services of trucks, buses and parts. The regional sales organizations of MFTBC were previously awarded ISO 9001 certification in 2016.

Mitsubishi Fuso is very active in ensuring the highest levels of quality management processes. In December 2017, MFTBC inaugurated its new quality management facility at its Kawasaki Plant. Cutting edge technology and state-of-the-art quality control instruments that allow accurate analyses and measurements have set new standards in the industry.
