Kawasaki, Japan MFTBC Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, under the umbrella of Daimler Trucks Asia (DTA), today announces that its fellow DTA member company Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has reached another important milestone as it crossed the mark of 100,000 vehicles rolled out from its manufacturing plant at Oragadam near Chennai.
DICV inaugurated its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in 2012 with the first vehicles rolling off the production line that June. Production expanded to MDTs in 2013, HDTs in 2014 and buses in 2015 with output increasing each year successively. The milestone of 50,000 units was crossed in August 2016, and two-shift operations were introduced in 2017. Of the 100,000 units produced, 14,500 units were FUSO-branded export model MDTs and HDTs sold in over 40 markets worldwide.
An integral part of Daimler’s global production network for trucks and buses, DICV manufactures chasses and complete knock-down (CKD) kits for BharatBenz, Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and FUSO brands. The Ordagam Plant in India stands alongside the Kawasaki Plant in Japan and the Tramagal Plant in Portugal as one of MFTBC’s three global chassis and CKD manufacturing centers. MFTBC also boasts 16 CKD assembly facilities on four continents, as well as a global supply chain for parts and components that offers both flexibility and efficiency to bring the highest quality and value to customers around the world.
