Kawasaki, Japan – Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers under the umbrella of Daimler Trucks Asia, announces the launch of the model year 2019 Fighter medium-duty truck. The model year 2019 Fighter®* is equipped with advanced safety features and connectivity functionality that meets the market needs of safe driving and enhanced operational efficiency, which will help operators manage the chronic shortage of professional truck drivers in Japan. The new Fighter is available through MFTBC sales outlets and its regional sales units across Japan as of September 2019.
The 2019 Fighter can be fitted with either a 4- or 6-cylinder engine, and features new advanced safety devices for a wide variety of scenarios, significantly enhancing its ability to support safe driving. The Active Sideguard Assist™(1) (*optional), one of the 2019 Fighter’s new features, detects a pedestrian or vehicle on the left side of the vehicle through radar sensors and warns the driver when steering to the left or giving a left-turn signal through an alarm, thereby reducing the risks of left-turn or lane change collisions. Moreover, the new Fighter boasts the AMB® plus(2) collision avoidance system, which detects a vehicle through high precision radar to automatically apply the brakes. The vehicle has also been upgraded with the ESP® (Electronic Stability Program) (3), which detects vehicle position and controls vehicle stability to prevent side-slips or rollovers, as well as the Attention Assist safety system that reads the driver’s facial expression to detect distraction or fatigue, and the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS).
The 2019 Fighter also comes with Fuso’s telematics platform Truckonnect®(4) to meet customer needs for more efficient operations. This is the first time that the platform has been introduced to the medium-duty segment, beyond the heavy-duty Super Great and the all-electric light-duty eCanter truck. Truckonnect supports centralized vehicle management by leveraging vehicle data from the Truckonnect device, and digital tachographs, etc. It allows operators to identify information on the location or fuel efficiency of a vehicle, and can detect defects through remote diagnosis in real time. Vehicle information from the trucks is sent to MFTBC’s Customer Assistance Center on an around-the-clock basis, helping further boost the efficiency of both the vehicle’s operation and the customer’s businesses.
In addition to these advanced safety and connectivity features, the 2019 Fighter also provides an improved driving experience. The new Fighter comes with steering wheel switches that allow various operations to be initiated intuitively without requiring the driver to move his/her line of sight. Further comfort-related features include a meter cluster that allows the driver to identify fuel efficiency in real time, a Bluetooth®(5)-compatible AM/FM radio and a heater installed in the driver’s seat. MFTBC’s medium-duty trucks have gone through a series of improvements to satisfy the needs of the market and customers to date. By offering the 2019 Fighter fitted with advanced safety devices and connectivity, MFTBC will further contribute to increasing customers’ business efficiency.

The 2019 Fighter’s Main Features: Newly Installed Advanced Safety Devices and Connectivity Functions
Active Sideguard Assist™ (ASA)*
ASA is the safety device that monitors the driver’s blind spot on the left side of the vehicle through radar. The ASA system warns the driver with an alert signal and lamps whenever it detects any risks while the driver is steering to the left or is giving a left-turn signal.*
※Active Sideguard Assist is an optional setting.
*「Active Sideguard Assist™」is a trademark of MFTBC.
Collision Avoidance System (AMB plus)®*
AMB plus® mitigates collision damage with automatic braking and an alarm when a hazard is sensed from a stationary or moving vehicle ahead.
※AMB plus® is activated only when certain conditions are met.
*AMB plus® is a registered trademark of MFTBC.
Electronic Stability Program (ESP)®*
ESP® detects the vehicle attitude constantly through a sensor. Should a risk of skidding or overturning arise when the vehicle turns on a curve, ESP® optimally controls engine power or braking force, thereby helping avoid danger.
*ESP® is a registered trademark of Daimler AG.
Attention Assist
Attention Assist is a safety device fitted with a driving attentiveness monitoring function and a Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS). While monitoring the driver’s attentiveness, it emits a warning when the vehicle departs from its lane on freeways, for instance, thereby enhancing preventive safety.
*These advanced safety devices work only under certain circumstances. They may not work correctly under certain circumstances depending on road conditions and weather conditions.
Truckonnect®
The Truckonnect® service allows customers to check real-time vehicle information such as location, operating route, as well as the status of troubles such as vehicle breakdowns. It also allows the real-time monitoring of driver safety, while supporting customer efficiency both in terms of daily operations and fuel savings through features such as the digital tachograph.
※A separate application for Truckonnect services will be required.
